A shooting and cutting affray occurred at Alapaha, on Saturday, 5th instant, between John D. Luke, late postmaster, and L. L. Griffin. Griffin cut Luke severely, and Luke shot Griffin three times. It is thought that Griffin's wounds are very dangerous. "We, the jury of inquest on the body of John Daniel (colored) deceased, find that he came to his death from a pistol shot fired from the hand of John Graham Jr., son of James Graham; James Graham accessory to the crime. We find it an act of wilful murder. The crime was committed in the town of Cochran, Pulaski County, State of Georgia, 26th of February, 1876, about four o'clock, P. M.; the ball producing death entered the breast about four inches about the left nipple ranging down toward the heart, producing death instantly." (Signed) D. M. Ryle, Foreman. Sam Mayer W. C. A fatal accident occurred at the residence of Mr. D. W. Sikes, of Tattnall County, on the evening of the 17th ultimo, by which Mr. Sikes' little daughter lost her life. The statement as given by Mr. Sikes is, that Marion Alexander and Jimmie Smith were walking up the steps with their guns in their hands, for the purpose of arranging for a fox chase next morning. A dog ran violently against Mr. Smith's gun, causing it to fall and discharge its contents into the head of the little girl who was standing only a few feet in front. Death resulted in an hour.
